Scholarships
Below is a list of scholarships that are available, with a brief summary and any additional information.
Structural Engineers Association Scholarship
The Structural Engineers Foundation (SEF) is currently accepting applications for the upcoming academic year for undergraduate and graduate students studying structural engineering. Applicants will be evaluated based upon scholarship, leadership, and academic involvement . Up to four scholarships will be awarded, each in the amount of $2,000. One of the four scholarships, the Max Zar scholarship, will be awarded to students enrolled in a school in Illinois. We also have a scholarship directed for students of Hispanic descent.
The scholarship application deadline is April 16, 2010.
The SEF was established in late 1993 in recognition of the 75th birthday of the Structural Engineering Act of Illinois. It was set up to provide financial support for the educational and charitable activities of the structural engineering profession, including items like scholarships, honoraria for lecturers and research grants. The Foundation is funded by individual engineers, engineering firms and other businesses and organizations associated with engineering and construction. SEF is recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization by the Internal Revenue Service and contributions are tax-deductible within the limits prescribed by tax laws.
The Riverside Construction Company Harmon.Lounsbury Scholarship
The Riverside Construction Company, Harmon/Lounsbury Scholarship Fund provides college financial assistance to 1st year college students who are currently enrolled at California Polytechnic University, Pomona; California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo; and California State University, Long Beach; and who are pursuing a college education in engineering, particularly in the area of construction or civil engineering.
ASDC Civil Engineering Graduate Study Scholarship
ADSC: The International Association of Foundation Drilling, through its Industry Advancement Fund, invites applications to apply for a $3,000 graduate scholarships from United States and Canadian citizens for graduate study in geotechnical or structural engineering. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an ABET or CEAB accredited engineering program or be a graduate from such a program, and must plan to enter or continue graduate school during the current academic year. A minimum of fourteen scholarships will be awarded for the academic year beginning in the Fall of 2010. Full-time students are defined as being enrolled in 12 or more graduate school hours a semester. Part-time students are those enrolled in less than 12 graduate school hours, who also must work full- or part-time. In addition to the scholarship, winners will be flown (travel and lodging expenses paid) to the ADSC Annual Meeting, and be formally introduced to the membership.

The Railway Club of Southern California Annual Scholarship 2010
Since 1996, the Railway Club of Southern California (RCSC) has been dedicated to promoting the diverse professions within the railroad industry and sponsoring fellowship among railroad professionals in the Southern California area.
The RCSC will be awarding two $3000 scholarships to undergraduate students and a third $3000 scholarship to a graduate student. The minimum criteria for this scholarship are:
1) Undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at a public or private higher education institution in Southern California (defined as Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura or San Diego counties) in a degree program related to rail transportation.
2) Minimum GPA of 3.0 or greater.
3) Interested in a profession in the rail transportation industry such as engineering, planning, or operations.
The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific involvement in transportation, career goals, and academic record.
Note that family of RCSC board and scholarship review committee members are not eligible for award.

Application forms may be downloaded from the Railway Club website at http://www.railwayclub.org/scholarship.html. Completed applications must be received no later than March 31, 2010. Scholarships will be paid directly to the students’ school.
ACEC LA Scholarship
The Los Angeles County Chapter of ACEC-California is once again proud to be able to offer a scholarship program to undergraduate engineering students. The details are outlined in the application link above. The recipient must be a resident of Los Angeles County. They are also offering a $1,000 award to the engineering department with the highest number of applicants.
In recent years, they have not received a very large number of applicants for these awards and this is a great opportunity for the students. The deadline for submission is April 23.

APWA 2010 Scholarship
Each year the Monterey Bay APWA Chapter awards up to four scholarship grants to college students pursing civil engineering or other public works/construction related degrees. For 2010 the grants are $1,500 each.

SMART Scholarship
The application deadline is December 15, 2009 for Fall 2010 starts. Applications must be done on-line at www.asee.org/SMART. This is a highly-selective, prestigious, national program that fully supports their education, including full tuition and a very generous stipend in the range of $25,000 a year for undergraduates and $41,000 for doctoral candidates, while they are in school. It also includes a book allowance of $1,000 a year, health insurance, summer internships, and travel fees for internships. Students must be U.S. Citizens, able to obtain a DoD Security Clearance, and be willing to work in a defense laboratory upon graduation. There will be approximately 300 new awards this year.
